Upcoming Graduate Student Council Events:

The Graduate Student Council is celebrating Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Month from March 15th to April 15th. The first event is a workshop titled “How to Publish Your Research Strategies, and Technical Tips” given by Dr. Soumayajit Majumdar, the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs at the School of Pharmacy. The workshop will be held on Monday the 28th from 4 to 5 pm in Room 1044 of the Thad Cochran Research Center.

After that will come a workshop called “Responsible Conduct of Research: Ethics, Practices, and Policies” given by Dr. Tom Lombardo, Director of Research Integrity and Compliance, and Dr. Jen Caldwell, Senior Research Compliance Specialist. The workshop will be sponsored by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and held on Thursday, March 31st, from 4 to 5 pm in Room 101 of Lewis Hall.

On April 5th, the GSC will be hosting its Town Hall Meeting from 11 am to 1 pm in the Yerby Center. On Thursday, April 7th, the Office for International Programs will be co-sponsoring a workshop called “From Practical Training to Permanent Residency: Navigating Immigration after Graduation and Beyond” from 2:30 to 4:30 pm in the Career Center of 303 Martindale. This workshop will be led by immigration attorney David Ware, of Ware Immigration. It will also feature refreshments!

The 6th Annual GSC Research Day will be on April 15th at the Yerby Center. Applicants for the podium and poster presentations at the Research Day Symposium may submit their abstracts effective immediately. Prizes and other recognition for excellence in research and presentation will be given at a final awards ceremony.

For students who would like to be involved with the GSC, elections will be held on April 13th. Open positions are for a new Executive Officer and a new Director. The Executive Officer position is filled by an open vote, and the Director will be hired by the new Executive. Deadline for applications in April 1st. Holding either of these positions for a term will make the applicant eligible for the Presidency and Vice-Presidency in the future.
