IMAGE Program

The IMAGE program is dedicated to preparing its members in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), equipping them with the skills and experiences necessary to successfully pursue graduate studies after completing their undergraduate degrees.

IMAGE: A Pathway to Excellence in STEM

The acronym IMAGE stands for Increasing Mississippians' Access to Graduate Education. Everything we do is oriented toward striving for excellence, and students who accept the challenge to pursue excellence become IMAGE Scholars.

If you are looking for an undergraduate program in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, IMAGE has a place for you.

Get to Know the IMAGE Program

Learn a bit more about the IMAGE Program at the University of Mississippi.

The IMAGE Program at the University of Mississippi began in 1991 as part of the Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation.

  • The Alliance was called the Louis Stokes Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation (LSMAMP), was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the eight public universities in Mississippi.
  • The LSMAMP was formed to address the shortfall of scientists, engineers and mathematicians that the American workforce faces, which adversely impacts the nation’s competitive posture in the global economy.

National higher education enrollment data indicate significant under-representation of Mississippians holding undergraduate and graduate degrees in all academic disciplines.
