Increasing Mississippians' Access to Graduate Education (IMAGE) and Bridge STEM Programs

These programs support sustained efforts to increase the number of marginalized Mississippi students (first- generation, economically and academically disadvantaged areas across Mississippi, etc.) earning undergraduate degrees in STEM fields.

The Mission

The Bridge STEM and IMAGE mission is dedicated to creating new opportunities for undergraduate students and change the future of STEM in Mississippi.

The mission of IMAGE is to:

  • Increase the number of marginalized Mississippi undergraduate students acquiring bachelor degrees in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
  • Increase the number of advanced degrees obtained by marginalized Mississippi undergraduate students in the STEM fields.

IMAGE Program

Since 1991, the IMAGE Program has supported marginalized students in STEM through academic resources, mentorship, and research opportunities. Learn how IMAGE helps students succeed in college, prepares them for graduate school, and builds community through outreach and engagement.

Bridge STEM Program

The Bridge STEM Program is a five-week summer experience that helps incoming Ole Miss freshmen from marginalized groups prepare for success in STEM majors. Through academic support, mentorship, and immersive campus life, students gain the tools to thrive in college. Current IMAGE members can also apply for summer job opportunities with the program.

McNair Program

While not technically a Bridge STEM or IMAGE Programs, you may want to check out the McNair program. The McNair Program supports high-achieving students from marginalized backgrounds as they prepare for graduate school and doctoral study. Through mentorship, research opportunities, and hands-on guidance, McNair Scholars build the skills and connections needed to reach the highest levels of academic achievement.
