Graduate Certificates and Minors

The Graduate School has 12 Graduate Certificates and several Graduate Minors from which to choose. If you're interested in advancing your knowledge in specific fields, there are a number of opportunities from which to choose.

Graduate Certificates

The University offers several Graduate Certificates.  Take the next step!

The Biomechanics Graduate Certificate is a fully online program that is only accepting applications for Fall 2025. The program includes four courses totaling 15 hours of graduate-level course work. Courses are offered in accelerated terms so that learners may complete the certificate in as little as one semester or as long as two years. 

The University of Mississippi’s online Certificate in Business Leadership blends your passion with competencies in business planning, organizational behavior theory, and analytics. This certificate is ideal for candidates in middle management roles that are seeking to advance into leadership positions where they can influence results and improve organizational operations.

The program will teach students about research and development, analytical techniques, policy, and formulation in the dietary supplements and nutraceuticals industries. The courses will deliver scientific insight on subjects including natural products, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology.

The Evidence-Based Policing and Reform (EBPR) Graduate Certificate is a fully online program that includes four courses totaling 12 hours of graduate-level course work. Courses are offered in accelerated terms so that learners may complete the certificate in as little as one semester or as long as two years.

The University of Mississippi’s online Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship is a four-course program, designed to uplift new ventures in all stages—from getting startups off the ground to sparking innovation in a corporate setting. Acquire the tools to build a business plan, oversee operations, and market your product or company with a growth mindset.

The Intercollegiate Athletic Administration (IAA) Graduate Certificate highlights the structure, operations, governance, and leadership behind intercollegiate athletics and builds off of our legacy as a Southeastern Conference institution.

The Certificate in Intercollegiate Athletics Academic Success positions you to empower student athletes and help them tackle challenges unique to their situation. This four-course, entirely online course of study held in an accelerated format highlights the skills essential for starting a career in athletic academic advising and support. 

The graduate certificate program in media leadership is designed to provide intensive professional development to enhance strategic leadership skills in the media professions.

The Certificate in NCAA Compliance gives students the opportunity to specialize in the governance, legislative process, bylaws, monitoring systems and enforcement set by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood and Family Policy (Online) is designed for those committed to working on behalf of young children and their families domestically and internationally.

The Certificate in Emotional Disability (EmD) focuses on meeting the needs of individual students who have emotional and behavioral disorders.

The Gifted Certificate is entirely online and is designed to prepare educators with the knowledge base and competencies necessary for the appropriate education of gifted and talented learners.

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) learn best practices in the teaching of English as a second language. This graduate certificate program is designed for students seeking add-on endorsements to their current teaching certifications, for students seeking to teach English overseas, and for students preparing for graduate training in TESOL, applied linguistics, or a related field.

Graduate Minors

There are several options available at the University for minors in Graduate Education.

The Interdisciplinary Graduate Minor in Applied Statistics trains and educates students in advanced applied statistical techniques and serves to certify to potential employers that they have such training; brings graduate students from different disciplines together to study applied statistics, developing a broader base of research training and enlarging a community of students and faculty with shared interests; and encourages interdisciplinary research.

The entrepreneurship minor for graduate students, completed via online courses, will provide graduate students in degree programs with practical and applied knowledge to support the creation and development of a new venture in a startup or an innovation within an existing company. From designing a business model to operational execution, this minor walks students through the entrepreneurial process from idea to launch. Students complete four courses (12 credit hours), taught by highly rated faculty with extensive online experience.

The graduate minors in the Department of Modern Languages indicate that the bearer has a certain level of competence in French. Only students already accepted for graduate study at the University of Mississippi by their home departments are eligible for the graduate minor. Students should seek approval from the Department of Modern Languages prior to undertaking any courses in the minor.

The Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies in the College of Liberal Arts offers a Gender Studies minor. The interdisciplinary course of study helps students understand how and why notions of “masculinity” and “femininity” have changed at different times and in different cultures.

Analysis of gender also includes attention to other social categories such as race, ethnicity, class, nationality, ability, age, and sexual orientation.

The graduate minors in the Department of Modern Languages indicate that the bearer has a certain level of competence in German. Only students already accepted for graduate study at the University of Mississippi by their home departments are eligible for the graduate minor. Students should seek approval from the Department of Modern Languages prior to undertaking any courses in the minor.

The College of Liberal Arts offers the interdisciplinary minor in Medieval Studies for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The minors combine over 40 courses in arts and humanities disciplines. Beginning with the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the European “Middle Ages” (5th to the 15th centuries) was comprised of a wide variety of cultures, artistic trends, literatures, languages, philosophies, and religious practices.

Only students already accepted for graduate study at the University of Mississippi by their home departments are eligible for the graduate minor.
